IN MEMORY
PAWPRINTS ON OUR HEARTS
They will not go quietly, the dogs who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think we hear a barking at the door.
Or step back when we drop a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place the food dish used to be.
And sometimes, coming home at night, we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts belongs to them....and always will.

This page is dedicated to our pet friends who have gone on before us,
and the humans who loved them.

In Memory of Casey Horning
In April 2006, Don was working on a house when a child came up to him holding a female schnauzer. The child said her family was moving and couldn't take the dog with them. Don was told she was about 2 - 3 years old. She was a sweet girl who loved to cuddle, so home this little dog went with Don. Casey also loved to chase the squirrels in her backyard, and was also a 'soccer' player as well. She ran alongside the ball and would nudge it and chase it. Occasionally Casey would run out the front door but would only run to the corner and return, as she knew where her home was. Casey passed away on January 13, 2010 at 6 years of age due to illness. Casey was loved very much and will be missed. She will be waiting for Don and Laura at the Rainbow Bridge.

In Memory of Jack Black
Jack leapt into our hearts 2 years ago. My daughter wanted a dog to spend time with and at a Kansas K9 ResQ table in Petsmart we found Jack. Named after a favorite movie character of her brother's, Jack soon became a member of our family. Always quick to please, Jack was an active dog who enjoyed keeping our yard safe from people that passed by and squirrels alike! We would like to thank the team at Kansas K-9 ResQ for all they do, and for allowing Jack to be a part of hearts forever! We will miss him greatly and hope he is running in the fields chasing squirrels near the rainbow bridge. Jack, your little brother Kyle has been looking for you, and misses you too!

In Memory of Buddy 'Big Dog' Olenick
Buddy came to live with us in July 2001. The Ranger at one of the Girl Scout camps is a friend and his dog had pups. We adopted this one - well actually, Buddy picked our daughter. He was housetrained inside of 2 weeks and only had one accident in the house! He is an extremely intelligent dog and is a gentle giant. Buddy was a mix of Golden Retriever and Great Dane - he was a big sweetheart of a friend. Buddy had not eaten for 2 days when we took him to the emergency vet on 5/22/2010. He had a ruptured tumor on his spleen, and with every heartbeat blood pumped into his abdomen. Due to his increased liver enzimes surgery wasn't possible to even give him another 4 - 6 months and we decided to end his pain. That was the hardest thing we've ever had to do. It happened too fast. He went too soon for us. But apparently he had been sick for a while. He will be very very missed.
Remembering Buddy:
Talking to us - RUU RUU RUU! His helicopter tail; the softest ears; talking to us while getting his food ready; playing fetch with tennis balls and sticks; playing 'pass the tennis ball' with Rusty; licking Pepper & Tippi's ears; laying with Mikey; sleeping with Sarah; riding in her big truck; exploring the barn and pasture; visiting Tractor Supply; watching the front door for Sarah's return from work or being out with friends; running in the back yard and swimming in the grandparents pond; playing tug of war with the rope; laying on his back on the divan; monitoring the cat's activities; and hugging him. That was the best - hugging him. He will be very missed, he was a good friend. A protector. A buddy. Thank you Buddy for your love and coming to live with us.

Treasured Friend
I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And shared her silent thoughts with me.
She’ll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more her favourite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to his golden throne.
Although my eyes are filled with tears
I thank him for the happy years
He let her spend down here with me
And for her love and loyalty.
When it is time for me to go
And join her there, this much I know
I shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet me with a bark.
